This job requires excellent assisting skills when in comes to providing right directions for effective execution of operation for the entire banquet department. Excellent monitoring skills for performance of food servers are essential. All reports should be well maintained and well documented for smooth functioning of the banquet department. The job also requires working closely with the executive chefs to ensure that the quality of food is per standard and is also presented well. Staffing of team members requires consistent and unbiased evaluation. Also, if required, disciplinary action should be taken as per the rules defined in the guidelines. One should always aspire to follow a consistent approach to upgrade the standard of food and its presentation. To manage banquet hall functions it is required to be in constant touch with the guest especially with the host to assure complete guest satisfaction. One has to be ready all the time to ensure that the guest does not face any difficulty.
The job also requires that the candidate attends the menu meeting, participate in discussion and if necessary make changes before finalizing next day events. Constant revision and preparation of banquet staff schedules and instructions as well as for floor plans for each day is another important aspect of this job. Beside all this, the job also expects the manager to perform miscellaneous tasks and at some places the manager is also expected to assist the catering head as part of the duty.
Ideally the job of Assistant banquet manager requires very high energy level to ensure proper execution of tasks and smooth functioning of the banquet. Ideal qualification for this job is around 2-3 years of banquet experience and a Hospitality degree.
