Assistant bar manager should always be ready to handle any work related to the floor and the dining room. For this job it is necessary to possess strong team management skills. The expectations from the person who get into this job are quite high; he or she should have a good taste for food, should be able to handle smooth service and should be able to keep up with daily changing tasks.

Ideally, the right candidate should have an excellent training background; he or she should be innovative in approach and should have strong marketing skills, as well as a passion for quality and creative ideas. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are very important and what the employers look for while hiring for this job.

The assistant bar manager should assist in the oversight of the entire bar and beverage department. This includes staffing, supervising, training, scheduling, and ensuring customer satisfaction. He or she should assist in providing direction and motivation for effective execution of the entire bar department. Preferred educational qualification for this job is a high school diploma or GED. Since this job involves lot of responsibility, the ideal candidate for the job should have minimum two years of experience preferably in a supervisory role.



This job often requires the manager to work independently; he is expected to work in a highly operational role. An assistant bar manager generally has to assist the manager in running the bar smoothly even in his absence.

It is expected that the assistant bar manager is always accessible to ensure customer satisfaction as this is very important to build contacts for future events. The manager should supervise the work of the team and at the same time maintain good relations with all team members and junior staff members and motivate them to perform to the best of their potential. The administrative tasks associated with the job include keeping track of finance related activities, preparing budgets, and tracking stock. It is important that the manager is presentable, approachable, and possesses a high energy level.

  • Supervision of all bar related activities.
  • Supervision of beverage service department.
  • Giving directions to the team members for smooth functioning of the bar.
  • Training of team members and performance evaluation.
  • Motivating the team members to perform well.
  • Should be efficient in multi tasking.
  • Provide the highest level of service ensuring complete customer satisfaction.
  • Work on a model to improve the services of the bar by defining procedures that would effectively contribute to the growth and profitability of the bar.
  • Maintenance of stock and supervision of all stock control related activities.
  • Ensure that the department is following all the guidelines, rules and regulations defined by the leading authorities.
  • Should have a pleasant personality and interact with customers as and when required.
So, if you have a hospitality background and have excellent leadership and management skills (which usually come with previous experience in bar and restaurants), you can think of working as a full time Assistant bar manager. Immaculate appearance along with a friendly nature is very essential.
