Job SummaryRooms Maintenance is responsible for performing skilled repairs to the fixtures, furniture, and equipment in the sleeping rooms of the resort and condominiums and to maintain the best possible conditions at all times with the least amount of inconvenience to guests and associates.Public transportation available to Kalahari through Monroe County Transit Authority (MCTA) by way of the Silver Route. Qualification Standards Education RequirementsHigh School Diploma or equivalent is required. One year experience in carpentry, painting, electrical, and appliance repair required. Trade School and/or College course work in related field helpful.License/Permits Required NoneRequired SkillsnGood verbal and written communication skills.nAbility to lead by example and ensure that staff is working within company policies.nAbility to be self-motivated, administrative and pro-active preventative maintenance skills needed.nPossess excellent math skills.nGeneral knowledge of the principles and practices of hotel management helpful.nKnowledge Of Computer Hardware Or SoftwareEquipment and software that relates to engineering, carpentry, electrical, and room repairs helpful.Previous Experience RequirednPrevious hospitality or related experience helpful.nHave knowledge of plumbing, building, carpentry, fixtures, and all facility maintenance required.nPhysical RequirementsnPossible heavy workloads; exerting up to 100 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or other wise move objects occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly.nBending, stooping, kneeling, reaching involved.nMust be able to work in various weather settings such as warm/humid settings and hot/humid weather for indoor and cold or hot/humid outdoor environments.nBe able to work flexible and long hours sometimes and weekends, nights, and holidays.nMental RequirementsnMust be able to convey information and ideas clearly.nMust be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.nMust be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.nMust be able to work well in stressful, high pressure situations, including ability to handle guest objections and disputes to satisfactory results.nMust be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the issues raised by Associates, Supervisors, Department Heads, Senior Management, and guests.nMust be able to adapt to a broad range of customer interactions, inquiries, and complaints.nMust be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.nAbility to be a clear thinker, analyze and resolve problems exercising good judgment.nMake independent decisions while maintaining strong ethical standards consistent with company policy, rules and the ability to maintain confidential information.nEssential Duties & FunctionsnUnderstand completely all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, safety and training programs of Kalahari Resorts.nEnsure that all guests feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times.nMake repairs and maintain resort and condominium rooms to include but not limited to: programming televisions, replacing light switches, receptacles, light bulbs and fixtures, furniture repair, plumbing repairs (clogged drains, copper pipe, change washers, change handles, drain fittings, etc.), repair water lines, test-clean-repair swimming pools and spas, paint designated areas, repair and finish sheet rock, repair all types of wall coverings, and repair and program hotel electronic lock systems.nEnsure that all equipment is kept clean and in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the manufacturer's preventative maintenance programs.nActively participate in energy conservation programs per resort standards.nAssist in controlling expenses and energy budgets per Kalahari financial standards.nMaintain repair and preventative maintenance records.nAssist in scheduling preventative maintenance tasks.nAssist in special projects when requested.nPerform and maintain work to local, state, and federal codes.nBe knowledgeable of policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair, consistent corrective action for any and all violations of company policies, rules and procedures.nFully understand and comply with all federal, state, and county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of the associates and guests.nFully understand and comply with all federal, state, and county and municipal regulations that pertain to equipment safety, inspections, and yearly inspection with all authorities.nProvide advice and suggestions to the Maintenance Manager as needed.nParticipate in the Daily Promise line-up meetings.n Source: Hospitality Online,
