Culinary Services Assistant Manager
This position will work in the Market during the academic year and other operations during the break periods between semesters .
The Market is a bustling coffee shop/convenience store in the heart of campus located in the University Center.
This position will manage operations and supervise student staff in the UC Market. This position reports to the Market Manager or the assigned unit. This position will assist with menu planning, development and implementation of new concepts, and requires up- to-date knowledge of cutting-edge collegiate food service applications, equipment, and guest expectations. This position will assist with the management of a complex inventory and requires diligent attention to changing prices and food costs.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
Manage the daily operation of The Market or the assigned operation. This includes scheduling, ordering, food, supplies, maintaining inventory, clarifying and managing guest concerns and addressing emergent operational needs.
Hire, train, schedule, maintain student records, and directly supervise The Market staff.
Develop the labor budget for service and implement a service staff schedule that meets established parameters.
Effectively provide for the proper maintenance, repair, inventory and utilization of all equipment assigned to The Market.
Occasionally work outside of normal working hours and be present at events in the evenings or on weekends.
Follow established UMCD policies and procedures and ServSafe standards of health and safety.
Maintain and organize of all service and storage areas.
Contribute to the success of UMCD as an active member of the management team.
Contribute to the design and implementation of UMCD policies and procedures and ServSafe standards of health and safety.
Prepare and serve exquisite espresso beverages.
Required Skills
Ability to provide outstanding guest service and train the staff to do the same.
ServSafe Management certified.
Ability to develop long-term goals of increasing revenue by planning and controlling product placement which complements guest travel patterns within the operation.
Ability to design and implement a management schedule, which includes operating the UC Market in the evenings and on weekends.
Minimum Required Experience
Possess a valid driver license.
Experience in training others in a high-volume espresso/c-store environment.
Experience with developing a balanced labor budget.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive experience with managing the daily operation of a c-store/espresso operation. This includes scheduling, ordering, food, supplies, maintaining inventory, clarifying and managing guest concerns and addressing emergent operational needs.
Degree in hospitality or food service management or a related field, and/or three (3) years of high-volume convenience store work.
